AIKIDO

A traditional martial art for a modern world, Aikido embraces universal principles in movement, form, and conflict resolution. It is a way of approaching interrelationship and synchrony with not only people - but with oneself. There are lots of things that I could quote about this traditional Japanese “do” (or path) that have already been written. Needless to say, it fills my life with joy and helps me be a better human being. I’ve practiced Aikido continuously since 1997, the same year that I started working at Emos (live music venue) in Downtown Austin. To learn more about Aikido, my instructor Shihan Joseph Birdsong, or our member-run nonprofit Aikido of Austin - please visit this link https://austinaikido.org. I am a student, teacher, and board member, as well as currently hold the rank of Yondan (4th degree black belt).
